“Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life…to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.” – From FoodDay.org
On Sunday, the Bennington Sustainable Food Project hosted a Food Day event in order to celebrate real, good and sustainable food, and to raise awareness on the Bennington College campus about food related issues.
The event spanned two days, with apple picking and pie making on Saturday, and then pie and other delicious snack eating, on Sunday afternoon. We made fresh-pressed apple cider using the apples picked from campus apple trees and pressed them using a wooden cider press loaned to us by faculty member Kerry Woods.
On the whole, it was an extremely successful celebration which got a lot of different people involved in the various aspects, fulfilling our goal of generating support and interest in the issues surrounding food and sustainability at Bennington College. Meetings for the BSFP are on Tuesday nights from 9-10.
